Rumba? Sunny? Star?? No... It's Radio 104.5

Well Philadelphia Finally has an Alt Rock station. Okay, it's not INDIE rock Like Indie 103.1 in Southern CA. It's what's being called Adult Alternative. What's that? According to the NyRadioGuide.com Adult Alternative (not to be confused with Adult Album Alternative which is what WXPN's regular format is Alternative/Modern Rock

A station which plays current hits, whether single releases or popular album tracks, which tend to appeal to adults more than to teenagers. Playlists are drawn from rock, pop, country-rock, folk-rock and blues releases.

But I think if you said to yourself, what was radio like on Y100 in 1999? Well, Radio 104.5 would be it. Yes, that's right. Party like it's 1999!! Someone on Radio-Info.com said the station sounded like Lucy on XM. For Sirius listeners, you are probably looking at the Lithium channel. (Currently playing Bush's "Mouth" From their 1996 release "Razorblade Suitcase")

Oh my goodness... "Smells Like Teen Spirit"!!! This song is 16 years old. It's a fantastic song don't get me wrong. It sits in My Top Rated playlist (Songs rated with 4 or 5 stars). So I'm guessing we're not talking that you are going to hear the latest and greatest indie music here. I'm sure they will mix in a few songs. And they have. But you are looking at a fairly generic alternative rock radio station. You know the kind of station you might hear in a tourist town like Bar Harbor Maine. Is this going to get me to listen to something other than Sirius? Um... no.

I mean it's a nice change of pace, and I'd like to see how the station evolves. It's important to note that it's a Clear Channel station which will be concerned with profits I would gather more than a skinradio.com might. But I assume they are trying to fulfill this let the audience program your station concept. CC started doing this with Q102.1 with their "Get It When You Want It" promotion. I still don't get that "Jennifer from South Philly" billboard on 95 North. But then again, I don't really get Q102.

Well, we'll be keeping an eye out there for how the station goes. And if you think HammRadio.com will be sending them a note to become a DJ there? Well, you'd be well Wrong. Mostly because I'm extremely lazy and I have too much tremendous material to cut up into a good demo. If you believe that one I tell you another!

I will say this... YROCK has stepped up to the plate today! GBV, Dear Leader, Kaiser Chiefs. Wait a minute did they steal my iPOD??? Jim McGuinn I'm looking in your direction?
